Summer Reading

Now that it is summer and I have all the time in the world more work and training's for work, I actually have a few minutes to sit down and read.  It is so nice to not have to come home and grade, lesson plan, email parents, and so on.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my job.  I love doing what I do, but I know why we have to have a summer break; to re-energize, lay on the beach, sleep, run, eat all the necessities in life!

I am such a book worm and during the year it is very hard to get into books with everything else going on.  This month alone I have already plowed through a bunch of books.

-5o Shades of Grey (not a fan of )
-50 Shades Darker (Not a fan of)
-50 Shades Freed (not a fan of)
-Two for the Money- Janet Evanovich (enjoyed-Hysterical)
- Three to Get Deadly- Janet Evanovich (enjoyed- hysterical)
-The Art of Racing in the Rain - Garth Stein (loved- a must read)
-First Triathlons by Gail Kislevitz (mediocre, didn't motivate me to do another one)
Currently: Let's pretend This never happened (A mostly true memoir)- Jenny Lawson

Now this is where I need your help!
I need your recommendations of what book(s) I should read next!  For your help, I will be giving away 1 $15.00 Barnes and Nobles Gift card to get yourself a book!!

Happy Reading

  1. I just finished reading the Uglies by Scott Westerfield. I didn't realize it was a trilogy until I finished. After I finished the book I was frantically researching if there was a sequel because I wanted to keep reading knew that it couldn't be the ending.. luckily there is!

Also Ann Brashares (she wrote The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) writes a lot of really good adult novels. I read The Last Summer by her and it was slow at first but really picked up and was good.

I also just started using Good Reads, it's a website (and app) where you easily keep track of what books you've read. Also you can have friends on the website and see what their reading, previously read, and read their reviews for the books. Definitely check that out if you read a lot! Find me on it :)

  5. If you want a running book I suggest Kara Goucher's Running for Women: From First Steps to Marathons- I loved that book. She is one of the Olympic marathon runners this year. If you want a fun, summer read I suggest I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella.

  8. I tell everyone to read, The Host by Stephanie Meyer.
I loved Something Borrowed, and Something Blue by Emily Giffin.
I can say I've enjoyed the Hunger Games series.
Some cute quick read Shannon Stacey's books, Exclusively yours, and her others. It's cute, cheesy love stories, but she is a good writer (I think).

  11. I just finished "The Night Circus" and absolutely loved it. It's amazing - like a combination of "Harry Potter" (for adults) and "The Time Traveler's Wife."

I also recently read "Belong to Me" by Maria de los Santos even though it's a couple years old now. If you haven't read it, I recommend it - it's great story that provides an interesting look at relationships (especially female friendships).

  12. I'm really looking forward to reading "Gold" by Chris Cleave (who wrote "Little Bee.") The plot sounds great: Gold is the story of Zoe and Kate, world-class athletes who have been friends and rivals since their first day of Elite training. They’ve loved, fought, betrayed, forgiven, consoled, gloried, and grown up together. Now on the eve of London 2012, their last Olympics, both women will be tested to their physical and emotional limits. They must confront each other and their own mortality to decide, when lives are at stake: What would you sacrifice for the people you love, if it meant giving up the thing that was most important to you in the world?

  18. I participate in a "Blogging for Books" program. Actually in several of them and they will send you copies of books you request and you write a review on your blog and another site in return.

Here is my first on "Wildflowers from Winter" and it was a quick, delightful read I could also recommend for you!
